Assume version mismatch before anything is broken: update the game, install the current BepInEx pack, update every installed mod to its latest file, verify game files in Steam, and confirm the unmodded game works before adding mods back in small batches.
The first ten minutes
Work down this list in order and test the game after each step. Most post-update failures are a version mismatch somewhere in the stack, not a dead mod.
- Let Steam update the game fully. A loader built for the previous build against an updated exe is the classic half-broken state.
- Re-download the current BepInEx pack from Nexus and re-extract it next to the game's .exe, replacing the old loader files.
- Update every installed mod to its latest uploaded file. Open each mod's Nexus page and compare its last-update date against the current game version.
- Remove mods with no update for the current version. An outdated framework mod (TextureReplacer, Art Expander, Enhanced Prefab Loader) takes everything built on it down with it.
- Verify game files in Steam (Properties → Installed Files) if the game itself misbehaves; commenters report this fixes a large share of odd cases after updates.
F1 does nothing
The F1 configuration window belongs to the ConfigurationManager that ships inside the BepInEx pack. When it does not appear, the pack's files are usually missing from, or misplaced in, the game folder — a recurring report in the game's Steam discussions since the first modding days.
Re-extract the pack so winhttp.dll and BepInEx sit directly beside the game's .exe, run the game, and try again. If it still fails, check that a ConfigurationManager file is present under BepInEx\plugins; some manual installs separate it from the pack.
Black cards and broken textures
Around the 1.0 update, community threads filled with card textures rendering as black boxes while the rest of the game ran fine. The common factor in the working setups was a fully updated texture pipeline: current versions of Art Expander and TextureReplacer matching the new game build, with each dependent card mod updated as well.
If your collection or skin mods show black boxes, update the frameworks before the packs built on them, then retest. Community-reported fixes like this one are the fastest route to a working setup, but they are not guaranteed for every mod combination — and the mod's own Nexus posts page remains the authoritative place to check its status.
Your save lost days or levels
A separate pattern appears in update threads: a save where the in-game day and shop level reset. Commenters repeatedly point to mods that interact with max hand size — one popular pack-opening mod among them — as the suspected trigger, and to removing those mods before continuing.
Treat that attribution as a community caution, not an established mechanism; we have not reproduced it and mod behavior can change between versions. The practical response is the same either way: keep a save backup before every update, remove recently changed mods when a save misbehaves, and never test a suspected save-breaking mod on your only save.
Where to report and wait
When a specific mod stays broken after you have updated everything, the mod's Nexus posts tab is where its author actually watches; a useful report states the game version, loader version and mod version. Content built on the Enhanced Prefab Loader and Project TCG Overhaul has active community support channels, and the game's subreddits are effective for crowd-diagnosing combination problems.
This page reflects community evidence checked on 25 September 2026, in the 1.0-era build. After the next game update, expect a few days of churn before mod authors catch up — and check our version notes for what the update itself changed.
